Oakland's Elmendorf Tear Tester Selection Guide
Oakland ME Series Manual Elmendorf Tear Tester
Oakland’s ME Series Manual Elmendorf tear testers are economical, yet accurate test instruments to determine Elmendorf tear strength. Standard model includes Manual Sample Clamps (2).
Includes Interchangeable Pendulums: 800, 1600, 3200 and 6400 grams (7840, 15600, 31360 and 62720 mN). One is included as standard.
Options include: Integral Cutting Knife, Pneumatic Sample Clamps.
Samples can be prepared using a manual D-shaped sample cutting template. For higher volumes, select Oakland’s steel ruled dies mounted into Oakland’s Model DT-520 sample cutting press.

Oakland DE-0200-CF Series Electronic Tear Tester
Rugged and cost-effective, the Model DE-0200-CF Digital Elmendorf Tear tester provides accurate tear resistance values of paper and plastic films with a resolution to 0.1 gram (1 mN) and accuracy to ±0.2% or better. Console of Software-driven, the DE-0200-CF includes a Framework-style Pendulum suitable for low to medium capacities including the base 200 gram (1960 mN) pendulum. Additional measurement capacities only require the replacement of the Add-Weight, which increases maximum pendulum capacity to 400, 800 or 1600 grams (3920, 7840, 15600 mN).
Standard features include Integral Cutting Knife and Pneumatic Sample Clamps.
The built-in firmware provides simple instructions to balance the instrument, alter the reporting units and tabulate results of multiple sample tests.

Oakland DT-520 Sample Cutter Press
Oakland’s Model DT-520 lever press laboratory is a sturdy sample cutter designed for preparation of complex shaped samples, including circles, rectangles, D-shaped (Elmendorf tear), COF block, dog bones and other custom shapes.
Cuts shapes with interchangeable Steel Rule Dies, up to 150 mm x 1550 (6 inch x 6 inch) die shapes mounted to the upper platen. Custom models up to 200 mm x 200 mm (8 inch x 8 inch) are available. The interchangeable upper board and replaceable cutting surface extends the service life of dies.
The Model DT-520 lever press is rated to withstand 39 kN (4000 lbf) of force, yet requires only 0.7 kN (70 lbf) to operate.
Recommended for plastic film, plastic sheet, paper and corrugated sheet up to 500 microns (20 mils) thick.

Oakland D-shaped Hand Sample Template
Oakland’s D-shaped hand template is manufactured from heavy duty stainless steel. Recommended for low to medium volume Elmendorf tear testing. Template is 76 mm wide x 63 mm high (3 in. x 2.5 in.).
Required if tear deviates by more than 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) from intended tear direction at the outside edge of the torn specimen. Commonly referred to as the oblique tear tolerance.
